We put the tea in humanity.
From the beginning, our commitment to the Rwandan people has not wavered. From 1975 to the present, we’ve done everything we can to improve the lives and livelihoods of the local community.

Located just south of the equator in Rwanda’s Northern Province, our teas are grown in drained peat marshes and on the on the adjacent hillsides at an elevation of 5500-6000 feet.
The factory utilizes sustainable agricultural practices, has two organic divisions, is a participant in the Ethical Tea Partnership, and the estate is Rainforest Alliance Certified.
SORWATHE is a Fair Trade certified producer in Rwanda and Fair Trade also supports the two small tea farmer cooperatives, Assopthe Cooperative and Hillside Organic Tea Cooperative.

Through Sorwathe, our tea farm and factory, we’re proud to support our local community by investing in clean water, health care, adult and child education, childcare, environmental initiatives, and more.
A Thriving Community, Rooted in Our Tea
Sorwathe currently manufactures high-quality green, black, oolong, and specialty teas for local and international markets. It was the first tea factory in Rwanda to manufacture Orthodox, organic, and green teas. All its teas are pesticide free.
