Quality

With over a century of close nurturing, the tea bushes have evolved into a library of quality clones that industry veterans come and visit.

At Sorwathe, clonal tea plants—cultivated from a single tea leaf—are specially selected to exhibit unique and desirable characteristics. These plants are chosen with care to ensure they deliver consistent excellence, season after season, without altering the natural composition of the tea.

Saplings nurtured in Sorwathe’s state-of-the-art nurseries are meticulously matched to the region’s weather patterns, soil conditions, and the flavor profiles of existing varietals. This thoughtful selection process enhances the qualities of each tea, ensuring that Sorwathe’s offerings are nothing short of exceptional.

Sorwathe is owned by Luxmi Estate renowned for its gardens teeming with top-quality clonal varieties, producing some of the world’s finest teas.

At Sorwathe, robust tea varietals are carefully nurtured in our nurseries to thrive in the unique Rwandan terroir.

From withering to fermentation and drying, every batch is guided with precision and care to unlock its full potential. This commitment to craftsmanship ensures that Sorwathe teas consistently deliver unparalleled flavor and quality in every cup.

However, the journey to creating exceptional tea doesn’t end there. Each leaf is meticulously reviewed by Sorwathe’s expert tea makers, who bring decades of experience to the art of transformation.

TASTING CENTER

The Art of Perfecting Tea at Sorwathe

An essential step in producing Sorwathe’s fine teas lies in the meticulous process of tasting. Our expert tea makers sip through hundreds of harvests, analyzing every nuance to identify the perfect blend for each tea variety.

This dedication to precision ensures that every batch embodies the exceptional flavor, aroma, and quality that Sorwathe is renowned for, bringing a truly remarkable experience to tea lovers around the world.

Describing the characteristics of tea is an art as intricate as wine tasting, and professional tasters at Sorwathe use a vocabulary as vivid and precise. A tea leaf with fine appearance is called “well twisted,” while one that is oversized for its grade is deemed “bold.” An immature tea carries a “green” taste, whereas a “fully mature” tea strikes a perfect balance—neither bitter nor flat.

At Sorwathe, tea tasting is at the heart of our commitment to quality. Regular tasting sessions allow our experts to engage with the diverse characters of each tea, ensuring that every cup reflects the excellence and depth that define Sorwathe’s legacy.
